5 February, 2020 Work day at anchorage

It has been a beautiful anchorage on the St Lucie canal.
Serenity at anchor
Very quiet last night.  Remain anchored in same spot.  59 deg, clear, water like glass at sunrise.  Slow day, not in a hurry.  Since this is the last opportunity to utilize fresh water, have remained on the anchorage today and washed the boat really good top to waterline.  Once dry, with the dinghy out of the way, waxed the stern area which was pretty dirty from diesel fumes/smudge.

We took the dinghy across the canal to the Port Mayaca Cemetery along the Southwest Kanner highway .  It was here, the 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane destroyed most of the communities around the lake.  Over 3000 were lost, 1600 were buried in a mass grave at this location.  We walked around the old cemetery, respectful of the ground.

Walked for a while, but the highway is extremely busy with heavy construction trucks moving both directions.   Getting Kaos out of the rocks we paddled back to Serenity.  Made sun shades to fit the front helm windows from the car shades purchased the other day in LaBelle.
Kaos on the rocks
Small craft advisory has been issued for tomorrow thru mid-day Friday.  This anchorage is not protected enough.  Had intended to travel to Stuart, Fl and  secure to a mooring ball for  couple of days while we get groceries and do laundry.  Depending on wind tomorrow, may take an anchorage in a creek off of this canal.  Will evaluate tomorrow morning.
