Not very far today. Not an early go because Lake Michigan has not settled down after the cold front passage last night and the north winds are strong and waves are up. We untied the lines at 0900 and make the five mile journey to the inlet into Lake Michigan. Suspected it would not be to our liking. Winds remained 15 out of the north but there was a confused swell; predominantly NW but 20 miles south swells remained SW. As we exited the rough inlet, we were greeted with 3-3.5 foot swell with a decent period so we said lets take a look. Clearing the inlet and turning on course to the southeast, we both felt uncomfortable with this following sea and did not want to continue another two hours to the first available exit off the lake. We turned around, passing back through the inlet to a very nice anchorage. (Map) We dropped the anchor at 1015 in 20 feet of water. Kim’s anchor video

Weather forecast was for 1-3 footers today and the wind apps forecast decreasing winds and waves later today. Absolutely beautiful clear blue skies and clear clean waters. We believed we would go later this afternoon. But it was such a beautiful day, warm and in our protected anchorage, winds light. We went swimming in 77 degree water. I used the dinghy as a platform to scrub the sides of Serenity which had a decent beard of weed growth at the water line. While the winds and waves came down, we elected to remain at the very nice anchorage. Swimming in clean water. Don’t get many days like this and as we travel further south it will get hotter and more humid.
Weather forecast for the next 3-4 four days is very good. Just hope it holds. We intend to get underway very early tomorrow.
