Very short day; 2 miles, 0.8 engine hours. All secure |
Leisurely morning yesterday November the 6th. We had made reservations to get diesel fuel and dockage for two days at Green Turtle Bay (GTB) Marina. (marina) We need fuel, groceries and cooking stove butane fuel. It was time for laundry too. Walmart here we come. 41 degrees early yesterday morning with our coffee, warming as the sun came up and we raised the anchor and got U/W at 0900. Winds freshening from the East about 10 MPH. Very easy cruise to the marina fuel dock. Took on 24 gallons diesel then proceeded to our assigned slip. We are the little bitty boat---we laughed, folks saying what a nice little dinghy--where is the real boat? Safely secured in our slip at 1030; 58 degrees outside with dark clouds obscuring the sunshine.

Our little boat between the big boys |
We utilized the marina courtesy van and drove to the super Walmart in Benton, KY. (Benton) About 30 minutes away. Courtesy van free, just have to put gas in it....thanks GTB. Great hot-hot showers and laundry facility at the marina. Clean bodies, clean clothes and fresh food. We are happy campers--boaters.
We elected to stay in the marina for two days due to the heavy rain, winds over 20-25 and plummeting temperatures. We can handle rain, but we also needed to do chores while here. It has rained all last night and heavy rain this morning. Forecast to stop raining mid day but increasing wind velocity. We have shore power electricity so our little electric heater is keeping the galley/v-berth area comfortable. We will replenish the fresh water tank, load the coolers with ice and detail plan our next weeks's cruise on the Tennessee River/Kentucky Lake. (details) We will be going up stream. Pickwick Lock and Dam is approximately 210 miles upstream. Opposing current increasing as we get closer to the Dam. So our SOG will decrease, our time between stops increasing and of course fuel milage decreases.
Planning to get underway tomorrow morning 8 November, 2019. Officially joining the Great Loop route. We will follow the compass generally South toward Mobile, Al and warmer temperatures.
