Drum Point restored light |
Relaxing day, peaceful morning coffee while listening to bible study via the internet. The three local churches on the island remain in virtual service mode. So we just stayed on the boat and did our church via the internet. Rocket launch from Wallops last night cancelled due to down range weather. Last night on mooring ball
Several boat yards around the mooring field, so we took the dinghy out to investigate and look around. Many beautiful boats undergoing bottom painting, hull painting and repair, but numerous hulls, like so many boat yards we have visited, are dry land grave yards of boats and their owner’s dreams.
Back to Serenity for lunch, then loaded up again and headed to the dinghy dock. The host marina for the mooring fields also has loaner bicycles. Actually, they were nearly new with bike locks provided. No charge for the use. First we rode to the Calvert Marine Museum.
At the Calvert Marine Museum pre-history, natural history, and maritime heritage come together to tell a unique story of the Chesapeake Bay. This is a family-friendly museum that offers live animals, fossils, interactive exhibits, daily activities, and a furnished cottage-style lighthouse - something for every age. We look forward to sharing this very special place with you.
A really nice museum recently reopened and the restored Drum Point Light was also open to climb up and have a look. Spending several hours, it was a relaxing, informative and interesting visit. The light house history, light keepers and their families who lived in the light were hardy folks indeed. Especially in the days of no electricity, running water or indoor plumbing. Wood cook and heat stove, rain water and outhouse. Hardy folks indeed.

After the museum we continued to ride for fun and exercise and visited a junk/flea market, then a mile later the local grocery store. Never to pass up freshies, fruit, veggies and a few cookies were soon in the bike baskets. Riding back to the marina area we secured the bikes, took showers then loaded the dinghy to return to Serenity. When I grilled last night I made extra patties so tonight we had salad and hamburger patties. Cloudy and cooler. No sunset observed. Planning early departure tomorrow if the favorable weather forecast holds.
