13 July, 2021. Marina bound today

Port Sanilac

Did not trust the anchorage in a strong blow; just too much thick grass clogging the anchor.  Ok last night in calm winds but did not want to discover in a thunderstorm how poor of a hold it really was.  Only relocated 200 yards from the anchorage to a marina slip at the state run marina where price is $1.35/foot.   Great deal, with excellent showers, laundry and shore power.  Dollar general 0.2 mile walk; small town grocery 0.4 mile.  Strong storms forecast today and we have not been disappointed.  While the winds were very favorable, we were not comfortable with the thunderstorm risk.  Rain showers off and on most of the morning but what stopped us early was un-forecast dense fog.  We were reviewing weather at 0630 and looked out and could not see the breakwater wall. Did not clear till nearly noon. That did it for us. We are staying the day.

We bought a big package of chicken thighs from the local grocery and grilled them on the marina provided gas grill.  Grill in excellent condition.  Along with the chicken we grilled sweet potato wedges.  Royal treat as we have not grilled chicken on the boat.  Just as we finished grilling and headed back to the boat, weather radio alerted and a special marine weather warning issued.  During supper onboard, it was a lightening and heavy rain extravaganza.  Plenty of tall sail boat masts all around to serve as lightening rods so we were good to go.  Our marina video

Happy to be secured to dock

At this time, weather looks good to continue movement tomorrow.  Perhaps an early go.  Verification as always, early tomorrow morning.
