Pretty decent anchorage last night. Noisy with fireworks till quite late and some road noise, but no one ran into us as they were coming back into the marina area from out watching the fireworks displays. We were up pretty early, checking weather and having coffee. We are headed to Vermilion, OH. It is an eclectic place according to the cruising guides so we are going to see, and we will meet up with fellow loopers: Sea Moor and Curt’s Dream. Another good weather day but heat warning has been issued. All systems good to go, raised the anchor at 0635 and slowly eased out the small anchorage area.

Cleveland at sunrise. |
Exiting back into the lake, we parallel the Cleveland sea wall which is nearly 5 miles long. The only thing we passed today was a freighter at anchor waiting port entry.

American Courage |
Hailed American Courage on channel 16 and verified she was not getting ready to move. Confirmed at anchor, we passed close to the bow and continued our travels SW. Winds westerly at 8-10 mph, but we were enough into the lee that is was not bad. Swells continue from NW made a bit of rolling ride, but not objectionable. No anchorage up ahead, we called an verified slip availability at the Vermilion City docks. Entering the Vermilion river inlet which was very busy on a holiday, as jet skies, fishing and recreational boats filled the narrow channel coming and going. Only about a mile inside of the well protected harbor we came to our marina slip and were assisted into our berth by the crew from Sea Moor and Curt’s Dream. Safely tied up at 1230, in a very unusual place.
(Map). Our slip is right on the waterway and boats have paraded by all day long. Big, small; power and sail. Paddle boards and kayaks. Crazy hot and humid this afternoon. Great, interesting town. We hiked about 1.2 miles to the dollar general. Next door was a good will, open so we went in and looked around. A few supplies obtained at Dollar General, we hiked it back to Serenity. I stopped at an ole time drug store/soda fountain and got a cheeseburger and onion rings then came back to the boat for supper. POC had eaten a late big lunch so was not hungry. Showers 50 feet away in the city water department building. Clean and well kept. As sunset approached, boat traffic decreased as all headed back to their respective areas.
