8 July, 2021. Lightening, thunder and rain in Motown

Walking in the rain
Today was a rest and recuperation day.  Seems the long days of travel often not the best weather conditions and always the uncertainty of how fast Lake Erie could get real nasty wore us out.  Asleep last night by 2000, did not stir until 0630 this morning.  Today has been nearly constant lightening, thunder and rain showers and hard rain most of the day.  Brief periods where the sun would peak out and we did outside boat tasks along with trips to the free laundry room here at the state park marina.  Warm and muggy most of the day until supper time and the cool and dryer air finally arrived.  Cool air mass with be with us for the next few days before more unsettled weather arrives.

Part of the afternoon devoted to chart study as we prepare to embark on the northward journey across Lake St. Clair, St. Clair river and Lake Huron.  Lots of miles to travel.  Entirely different three separate bodies of water.  Lake St. Clair small, shallow but can get nasty with stacked and steep waves.  St. Clair river has strong currents up to 2.0 MPH or greater.  Then there is Lake Huron. Second largest of the Great Lakes.

Plan to get underway Friday morning and proceed to an anchorage on the northern end of Lake St. Clair.
