Beautiful sunrise on a mirror like surface this morning. |
Coffee and grace this morning as we listened to one of our favorite bible teachers on the radio via the internet. Soaked dehydrated hash brown potatoes for a while, drained then made hash browns, scrambled eggs and tasty baked bits. Wonderful breakfast on the water.
My MacGyver fix to the dinghy met the test after breakfast. No leaks. I let Kaos float for about an hour before installing the outboard. NO LEAKS. We packed our lunches, took drinking water and set out in Kaos for the park dinghy dock.

No drama. Dink secured, we proceed to the ranger station with my senior pass in hand but was not needed today. The ferry arrival proceeded us and to our chagrin, those folks got all of the concessionaire's bicycles. Oh well, off on a walk we went. Wild horses from Spanish days continue to roam the island.

Old mansion grounds |
We spent time at the homesite of revolutionary war hero General Nathanael Greene, who build Dungeness in 1803. A century later Thomas Carnegie and wife Lucy bought the property and build on the original foundation a new and massive mansion also called Dungeness. Abandoned in the 1920, it burnt in 1959 only the stone walls remain.
Dungeness entry |
Most impressive live oak stands on the island. I have never seen so many massive live oaks.

Live oaks |
We crossed the island eastward until reaching the Atlantic ocean. Beautiful beach and most impressive sand dunes.
Low tide |
We had lunch under the massive live oaks inland from the dunes. Back to the dinghy dock where Kaos remained dry and afloat, we shoved off and returned to Serenity. Highly recommend if ever in this area of coastal Georgia, Cumberland Island worth the visit.
A day of thanks for what we have. Another night swinging on the hook. No movement today. Underway tomorrow.
