21 SM, 2 locks, 3.5 hours |
Prepared the boat for travel. Inspected inside and outside ensuring all secure and good to go. Not in a big rush, but ready to continue westward. We cast off the lines at 0730 for a 100 yard repositioning to the fuel docks. The diesel pump was not working properly and it took nearly an hour to take on 40 gallons. Topped off, bills settled we were ready again. Underway at 0830 on a short trip to the first lock of the day. Lock 23 is a lock down of 7 feet. The next lock is 18 miles ahead and mostly a no-wake zone due to residential build up.

Weather forecast a factor later in the day. Ahead, lock 24 has an excellent wall with floating docks on both sides of the canal and the town of Baldwinsville to explore.

Exiting lock 24. |
We pulled alongside the floating dock of north wall and secured Serenity at 1215.
(Map) Planned stop for lunch and assess the weather. A line of thunderstorms were about 50 miles west, so we buttoned up Serenity and waited out the weather. The severe thunderstorms went south, so we only got rain and wind. By 1600 it was partly sunny and we decided to stay the night and go for a hike. Walking to town we enjoyed the exercise and looking at the older downtown section and older homes and buildings.
